Current ideal dimensions (width x height in pixels) for major social platforms.
Each social media platform has specific recommended image dimensions. Using the correct sizes prevents cropping, pixelation, and compression artifacts that make posts look unprofessional. Here are the key dimensions for every major platform.
Instagram recompresses all uploaded images. To minimize quality loss: upload at exactly 1080 px wide (not smaller, not larger), use JPEG at 80%+ quality, and ensure the file is under 8MB. Uploading images smaller than 1080 px causes Instagram to upscale them, which looks blurry. Uploading larger images forces Instagram's compression algorithm to work harder, often producing more artifacts.
The universal recommended OG image size is 1200×630 px (1.91:1 ratio). This displays well on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and WhatsApp link previews. Use JPG or PNG, keep file size under 1MB, and ensure important content stays within a 1080×566 px safe zone in the center to avoid platform-specific cropping.
